Every new baby born into any community is truly a blessing. But every blessing needs nourishment and support to flower and grow strong and true. To that end, Baby Steps, a program dedicated to working with parents to help children from birth to age 3 prepare for a lifetime of learning and achievement, celebrated its third year of success on April 19 at the Atlantic Beach Club.
Truly, the seeds of hope and promise have taken firm root.
The Atlantic Beach Club indeed provided a lovely and naturally inviting setting to celebrate the early childhood education of these very young children as a developmental first “baby step” in advance of their entry into a more formal educational school environment.
To those who either attended or sent donations, the staff of Baby Steps and especially the parents and their children, extend their gratitude and heartfelt thanks for your generous support. Also, the many wonderful silent auction gifts were absolutely terrific and were gratefully and deeply appreciated.
Finally, the Boys & Girls Clubs graciously provided lively music by DJ Keila Sanchez and van transportation to and from the Atlantic Beach Club for our parents and children.
Just another example of how this worthwhile organization quietly provides valuable help and generous support to our larger community.
Baby Steps is staffed almost exclusively by volunteers at the Florence Gray Center.
Meetings are held monthly, usually on the second Saturday (the next meeting is May 12 from 9 a.m.-noon).
Anyone who would like to contribute donations, kindly send them to Baby Steps c/o of Dr. Charles Shoemaker, 95 Washington St., Newport RI 02840 or, if you wish to join us, please come to any of our sessions, you will be most welcome.
If we know anything, we all know that a human mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Charles Shoemaker, M.D., president, Baby Steps
